Quantum Voyages Workshop Invitation: FERMIONS and the FERMI SEA
Quantum Voyages Workshop Invitation:
FERMIONS and the FERMI SEA
Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts located at 500 South Goodwin in Urbana – Opera Rehearsal Room on the 2nd Floor.
Come play with us!!
As we revisit this performance piece, we invite you to join us in an exploration of Fermions, a breed of unfriendly quantum particles that compose the essence of who we are--electrons, protons, neutrons, and more.
Here, the quantum voyagers enter the strange, forbidding world of a metallic crystal, where electrons form a treacherous 'Fermi sea' (and one of the voyagers cannot swim!). How will they navigate the landscape? How will their guiding spirit, Sapienza, save them from the fermions bombarding them every which way and into chasms? And if saved, will they too emerge transformed into warring beings or will they find a state of harmony?
This will be an afternoon of play with text and movement around this scientific theme through the artistic, the abstract and the literal.
Open to folks in the Urbana/Champaign community, students, faculty, staff. Participation in the workshop does not commit you to the full project.
If you are interested and available, space is limited so please contact Latrelle Bright at lbright@illinois.edu by 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
We very much hope you will be available that day!
